Summer of Play

Kicking off with National Play day on Wednesday 4th August 2021, Friends of Market Place hosted a series of four play events, one for each Wednesday of August. We wanted to show the potential of this amazing community space.

Aw we loved it soo much! Thank you for putting on such a great day!!

4th August 2021: National Play Day included music, rhythm, zumba, circus skills, theatre games and storytelling.

11th August 2021: Morning Adventures included magic, circus skills and theatre games.

18th August 2021: Move and Groove Afternoon included dance, yoga, zumba and puppet making.

25th August 2021: Chill with Nature Afternoon included den-building, bird box making and a Market Place Dig talk.

… please congratulate all yourselves who volunteered – I think you did a very good thing here for our community and it must have taken quite a lot of work.

The cardboard drawing mat was one of our most popular activities at the Market Place play events. All a child needs to be an artist is a surface – a piece of cardboard, tarmac etc – and something to make a mark with – chalks, crayons etc.

Our amazing team of volunteer face painters gave their time and talents free of charge in glaring sun, occasional rain and wind blowing over the parasol and painted over 200 faces. The children were delighted with the results.

“a fantastic day for everyone, a really good use of the space”.

Thanks so much to The Archer newspaper for this lovely coverage of Market Place Play Days.
