Construction begins

Friends of Market Place Playground have have been working with Barnet Council and the East Finchley Community Trust on plans to refurbish Market Place Playground and are delighted to share the news that Southern Landscape & Construction have been appointed to carry out the work and construction has begun this month, March 2024. A massive thank you to everyone who has supported this project during the past 3 years!

Work will take place between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The work is likely to take until the end of June, as the space is having a complete refurbishment. The playground will be closed and fenced off whilst the work takes place. The first phase of the project will involve digging out the old equipment and surface. The grassed area will remain open during the first phase of the project. A separate council project will commence in mid March to replace the leaning brick wall on Park Road. This work is likely to take about four weeks.

The design by Aileen Shackell integrates the green space with the playground to create one big site. It replaces the current tarmac with natural porous surfaces like grass, planted beds and sand. There will be more play equipment suitable for different ages. New entrances will make the space more accessible. Click here to see the general arrangement plan.
